what’s good y’all! welcome back to STYLD 101 & as guys can see by the title, it's about to go down! today we’re doing another STYLD interview, I had the absolute pleasure of speaking with creator/founder of MooreLooks, wardrobe stylist, fashion blogger, & my goodT sis, Ms. Jailen Moore! a lot may of you may already follow her so you guys are probably just as excited as I am, enough with the chit chat & let's get into this interview! shall we? we shall.
INTERVIEW TIME:
me: first things first! tell the audience, who you are, where you from, what you do, etc.
jailen: “hello! my name is Jailen Moore, I’m from Newark, New Jersey. I’m a senior at Clark Atlanta University , I’m studying mass media arts w/ a concentration in radio, television, & film. & yeah! like DeWayne said I’m a stylist & I’m also a fashion blogger.”

me: what inspired you to create MooreLooks? & I peeped that you just hit 28K, congrats!
jailen: “yes, thank you so much! honestly, it was really just coming to the AUC. like being around so many young people on their grind, hustling, doing their own thing so it just kinda inspired me to do something for myself, ya know? I always had a love for fashion, like since I can remember, & like let me just start a fashion page to give people tips because I would always get questions from people about my style & what not. you know I just decided to make MooreLooks & I honestly made it, you know, not even intending on it becoming what it is now & you know, where I would I would like to see it in the future. but, that’s really what inspired me, I guess just wanting to create something for myself, create my own brand, & just wanting to help other people.”
me: would you say that having this newfound platform has helped grow your love for fashion & if so, how has it changed your life?
jailen: “yes! having this platform definitely grew my love for fashion. one, it made me more in tune with the trends, what people are wearing, & also just like being invested in other people’s outfits and learning from other people & how they dress. it really just opened my eyes to just more of the world in fashion, more of the fashion industry, & all those type of things. when I first started, yes I did have a love for fashion, but I wasn’t a fashion connoisseur just yet. I was just learning and I’m still learning about the trends, and the brands, and the people that had made serious moves in the fashion field so yes I’ve learned a lot & my love for it has definitely grown. & I think it changed me as far as just realizing more sides of myself that I didn’t that I had or didn’t tap into yet. just starting MooreLooks I’ve had to become more business-savvy, learn more about marketing, social media and that was never something I seen myself doing ya know. I do major in mass media, but I was so focused on production & being behind the scenes in films or what not, and I never really seen myself actually tapping into a business standpoint in like a digital standpoint of media and that’s something that creating MooreLooks has definitely done for me. just realizing that it’s many facets of myself that I want to explore.”
me: when did you first & why did you get into fashion? & how did that help you find your own personal style?
jailen: “I was first exposed to fashion when I was 5, that’s when I was in my first fashion show. so freakin’ excited, and that’s when I, you know, really first exposed to apparel & design and what goes into it. my aunt, she designed a lot of clothes for that fashion show so I was just seeing how she created it and it was just so cool to me. throughout the years, especially more in high school, I did more runway shows and fashion shows so I was more exposed to the fashion industry doing that and from I would say maybe pre-teen years to like high school, I really wanted to be a model. I was just stuck on modeling, but I did love fashion so much so that just kind of my thing, just modeling and fashion. when I got to, well still in high school, I also started designing my own custom denim. I enjoyed distressed denim, bleaching denim, just like doing different things. with reconstructing denim, which is very

very popular now, I did that in HS and I really enjoyed so that was another way I was venturing into the fashion world. “why did I get into fashion?” idk, I think it just kinda happened for me, especially the modeling, that was something that just worked out for me & from then on I was just really invested into the fashion industry from that… I think distressing jeans & modeling definitely helped me find my personal style, because for me, modeling I was able to understand my body type and what works for me. I’m very long haha, very tall, & small so I figured out ways to make certain type of clothes work for my body type, what looked right on me, & what didn’t. I think also just like coming from where I’m from, I’m from Jersey like I said, so I’ve kinda loved like street style & urban looks so I think that played a role in my personal style. I know probably from my IG page you wouldn’t tell I enjoy wearing heels, but I really really do & I think that stems from modeling as well. just like always having to wear heels and stuff, so I do love heels as much as I love wearing sneakers so that’s another thing that kinda influenced my style. overall, I just think that my environment and the things I’ve done over the years.”
me: ok girl period! we love to see it. I love how you’re so in depth with your answers. you briefly spoke about this in one of your answers but we didn’t really get a chance to get into yet. as creatives not only do people, but we can also tend to put ourselves in a box & we feel like that we have to limit ourself one thing.
how do you keep yourself out of having that mindset & how do allow yourself to still let that creativity flow?
jailen: “this question is definitely tough, because I do struggle with this a lot. putting myself into a box is something so that I can focus on one thing, so I guess for me getting out of that mindset is to just remind myself that it’s ok to want to dabble in different areas and have different focuses. I think that’s the beauty of being a creative is that our mind is always so saturated with coming out with new ideas and doing the things that we explore! other things outside of our norm, & so thats the beauty of it and I think that we should keep that in mind. a lot of people that we look up to, & that are successful right now, they always say have multiple streams of income and you can think of it like that. if you have a lot of different hobbies/passions outside of what you’ve been focusing on definitely tap into that because if you make money off of something you enjoy then why not. I think I still allow my creativity to flow just by like what I take in or what I see daily. I make sure that specifically since I’m on social media a lot that I’m seeing content that truly inspires me, makes me want to learn more, makes me want to think, & that I’m around people who do the same thing and feed into me. stuff I need to hear! positivity, optimism, and just all positive things and I think that’s where I get my creativity from. I also like reading, love youtube & learning new things. I think that’s where my creativity stems from & of course fashion! seeing people I follow on IG and how they put together fits that ALWAYS inspires me and keeps me going.”
"I think I still allow my creativity to flow just by like what I take in or what I see daily. I make sure that specifically since I’m on social media a lot that I’m seeing content that truly inspires me, makes me want to learn more, makes me want to think, & that I’m around people who do the same thing and feed into me."
me: most definitely! people see the glitz & glam so they don’t think about the hard work that’s not only being put into your brand, but also you as a person. you have to constantly think about what can make stand out from everybody or what’s something that somebody hasn’t done & I love that you expressed that you still struggle w/ that because we all do! and just like you said, that’s the beauty about being a creative because we have the ability to turn nothing into something.
where do see the fashion industry heading & why do you feel that way? there’s constantly new trends/comebacks in today’s fashion so you never know what’s going to come next.
jailen: “I definitely think the fashion industry is heading down a more relaxed, calm, minimalistic vibe. espcially, with cozy looks & athletic looks and like sweats. so I think that it’ll go down that route for sure because I think that’s really trending right now.”
me: as previously stated, besides being the founder/creator of MooreLooks, you’re also a wardrobe stylist as well! with running such a prominent & current fashion blog do you ever have trouble balancing the two?
jailen: “balancing the two has never been an issue for me as of yet, just because as far as styling a lot of my clients I style virtually. it’s really easy for me to take that time out to do what I have to do with them, but as far my blog & staying up to date and running it, there’s been certain times when I can’t be on it or post as much as I would like so I just won’t post. *haha* I think that’s just how I balance finding the time because if I can post a lot one day or one week I will, but if I can’t then I just won’t and it is what it is. that’s just how it works for me.”
me: where do you see your brand heading in 2020?
jailen: “2020! oh my God, I have big plans for my brand. I definitely want to elevate MooreLooks in a lot of ways. I guess one thing I can share of where I see it heading, just like more of a media turn. like it is a media outlet in a sense for fashion, but I definitely want to incorporate more media news, fashion news of course, and yeah I really want to elevate my content. that’s where I wanna see it heading. yes I post lot of inspiration, I post a lot of style, and like fashion looks, but I definitely want to incorporate, well create, content for MooreLooks that’s specific to MooreLooks.”
me: oop! ok girllll, period. y’all heard it here first on STYLD 101, so make sure that y’all be on the lookoutttttt. the newly used term “fashion girl” is has become the “IT” factor in fashion & has started being used more & I feel that people also use the term so freely.

what is your definition of a “fashion girl?”
jailen: “I think a fashion girl is someone who is confident, has her own style, doesn’t follow all the trends, doesn’t do what’s poppin’, but dresses for herself & makes it work. I also think a fashion girl is someone who starts trends and makes everything, whatever she wears looks good like Rihanna basically.”
"a fashion girl is someone who starts trends and makes everything, whatever she wears looks good"
me: if you could work with any celebrity as a client who would it be & why?
jailen: “I would definitely work with Bella Hadid, because I really love her style & her pieces, and I feel like she has a good eye for statement pieces, but still being minimalistic and I’m really in love w/ that trend right now. just like minimalistic, simple, and I think working with her would be cool.
me: yes! I love her all around. not only is her taste in street fashion is superb, but she’s one of the only models that I actually consider a supermodel in this generation. no tea, no shade.
what trend(s) are you tired of seeing at the moment?
jailen: “ok, even though I love this trend because I love leather pants and vinyl, but like I’m just tired of seeing the shiny pants. *haha* like, I just been seeing it too much. so yeah, those definitely.”
me: & period!
who’s your favorite designer right now?
jailen: “my favorite designer right now would have to be Jacquemus because, his designs are very simplistic but classy, and it still gives gives a statement. that’s like what I really love about designs & also, his mini bags are so cute! like, I need one. “
me: before we close out, is there anything you would like to add?
jailen: I honestly just wanna say thank you DeWayne for reaching out to do this feature on me, like I really do appreciate it! and to everyone that supports MooreLooks, supports me. likes, reposts, and just interact w/ my page in any capacity I just want to say thank you. like, I’m very very grateful and I’m just excited for what’s to come & it’s only up from here, period!
me: & that’s just that on that!
